Article: U.S. government wants to screen immigrants’ social media before granting citizenship

https://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/immigration/article235022202.html

The article states that immigrants who are applying for certain benefits could soon have to give links to their social media activity as part of the application process.  They U.S. government wants to be able to review information immigrants have posted on social media over the past five years when they apply for nine types of benefits including “changes on permanent residence through marriage”.  If this is approved, questions about social networks will be added to several forms used to apply for U.S. residence.

My opinion is that they should not be asking to access immigrants’ information about their social life because it is not really important.

Why does the government need information about immigrants’ social life?

What is the probability that this will be approved?

  1. Nice article, I disagree though, Getting as much information on immigrants is important because we want to know what kind of people are coming into our country and if they are safe.
