Reflections of The Hunger Games

Write a POST:

“When I was younger, I scared my mother to death, the things I would blurt out about District 12, about the people who rule our country, Panem, from the far-off city called the Capitol. Eventually I understood this would only lead us to more trouble. So I learned to hold my tongue and to turn my features into an indifferent mask so that no one could ever read my thoughts.”

1. What types of conflict does this quotation depict?  What figurative language does Katniss use to represent this conflict.
2. Find another quotation from ANOTHER CHARACTER [from this book] that represents the same type of conflict.
Answers:
1.
The conflict is Man (or woman) vs. Society.
Some good vocabulary words and synonyms are “blurt” and “indifferent”.
“I scared my mother to death” and “hold my tongue” are idioms.
2.
Another person who has the same type of conflict is Peeta because he is vs. the society since he is trying to get sponsors from the society (just like Katniss).

  1. In both questions you are missing the quotations. Use the text to locate quotes from characters that depict the man vs. society internal conflict.

  2. I think that you did a good job of describing how Katniss and Peeta are facing society and are very similar in that way.
