Technology
Students enrolled in the ELANCOnline Virtual Academy are provided with a student laptop as well as a printer with scanning functionality (if needed) so that they can be effective online learners. Along with that technology, the ELANCO Technology Services Department provides phone, virtual and face-to-face support for all District-provided technology. Specifically, for on-site secondary students, we have a dedicated Technology Department employee to support any computer or printer issues that might arise. Additionally, for our K-12 students working at home, we have a Technology Department employee assigned each region of the District – New Holland, Blue Ball, and Brecknock – to offer support as needed. If they can solve the problem over the phone or by remoting into the laptop, they will do that. Otherwise, they will arrange a time to come to the home and provide support face-to-face.
Additionally, listed below are some documents related to technology of which you should be aware. Elementary students that do the virtual academy have to complete the Anytime Anywhere Learning (AAL) document since they are provided with a laptop. Secondary students have this form on file because it is completed annually when they get a laptop. Some of our secondary courses offered are through the learning management system Canvas, so documents are provided for parents in terms of how to access the Spartan Learning Portal, where Canvas resides, as well as what parents can do as observers to monitor progress in their son/daughter’s Canvas courses.
Given that our high school virtual academy students also use APEX Learning in addition to Canvas, the PDF documents included provide parents information on how to be a learning coach and also show them what the weekly progress reports will look like that they will receive through their email. Additionally, there is a quick start guide for students on what browsers support APEX.
Students do have the option to use their own laptop as opposed to one provided by the District. However, if the family chooses to do that, the student and parent must complete the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Agreement and understand that support from the Technology Department is not provided since it is not District equipment.
