Concept
When matter enters the portal it makes the pull through the rift stronger so it doesn’t rip you apart or spit you back out.
Separation
If matter enters both sides at once it will split the rift to transport both without a fatal collision.
Part of an object
If only part of an object or being enters it will make a weird feeling to anything living and transfer whatever matter through. The weird feeling would be from separating the matter and transferring it so fast that it is painless

Cool, Spencer! I like how you gave headings to your ideas so it was easier to understand. I wonder if you could include a visual or diagram to help us understand a little bit better.
