National Geographic for Little Kids

Today during girls sharing Liahna brought in an AWESOME magazine for first grade readers.  It’s called National Geographic for Little Kids.  The articles are great and the kids can read them by themselves.  I ended up liking the magazine SOOOO much that I’ve placed an order for a 10 month subscription for 15$.  I thought that was reasonable.   I’m sharing the phone number because the kids have asked me to (I’m not a representative or anything 🙂  1800-647-5463.

Substitute Teachers

Hello!

As you may have heard, I was out unexpectedly for two days this week.  When I returned it was evident to me by the notes from the substitutes, the kids comments, and other teachers comments that it did not go well.

Today the students were given time to write me a note to tell me anything they felt I should know (one good thing/one bad thing).  The notes were both honest and precious.  I was able to help the kids resolve some of the issues that happened among themselves.  In addition, we reviewed the expectation for behavior when a substitute is in the room.

I certainly hope that all issues have been resolved.  However, if you have heard something from your child that isn’t “sitting well”, PLEASE be in touch!

Eagle journals

Today your child should have brought home his/her eagle journal.  This quarter our focus was on informational writing.  As you can imagine, the eagle camera was an exciting way to practice our “detailed reports” after we watched the camera for a few minutes.  As we move on to fourth quarter we will begin opinion writing.  Therefore, we are finished with our journals, but certainly not finished checking in on “our” eagles!  Some students even thought that they might keep on journaling at home!!  WOW!

Today during snack time we checked in and saw that the eagle nest is FULL of food.  This prompted some GREAT questions from the students.  We ended up searching for the answers.  This website is a great resource about eagles.  It also lists some other good articles.
