Dust Bowl 1930s

Research the Dust Bowl of the 1930’s.  Write a post on your blog about the dust bowl and how it impacted families, and the environment.

When the dust bowl happened it impacted families because three million people left their farms and half a million migrated to other states. By 1940 2.5 million people had already migrated from the regions that were affected by the dust bowl. Because of the dust bowl, lots of people wanted to do something about it. A New Jersey asphalt company thought about paving the plains. Some farmers even paid $500 to have their very own rocket thing that shoots out moisture and induces showers. Sisalkraft suggested covering farms with waterproof paper. The environment during the dust bowl was terrible the environment looked like a drought with poor land. The environment looked way worst after the dust bowl than before. That’s how it impacted families and the environment.

Trick or Treat Tradition – Week 4 blog challenge

Do you celebrate Halloween? What do you do? What are your traditions? Do you go trick-or-treating? Get dressed up? Have a bonfire? Halloween party? ( Create a post on your blog page answering the questions above.)

My family hands out candy and my brother and I go trick or treating. My aunt and grandparents come over to help us trick or treat. They have to help us because my parents and grandpa hand out candy, and my brother, aunt,  grandma , and I go trick or treating. My brother and I only dress up my aunt and grandma don’t. When my aunt was younger she dressed up too and got candy. The Halloween route for trick or treating is around the development in a circle then inside the circle up and down. Every time when we get home after the trick or treating sometime My brother and I help hand out candy. That’s what I do with my family for our Halloween tradition.

Popular food in the USA-Week 5 Blog Challenge

Hamburger

Here in the USA hamburgers are popular and at most restaurants have them as a food choice. The hamburger first existed in Germany before it was in America. To put hamburgers together you get beef from German Hamburg cows, garlic, onions, salt, pepper, and the bun. Hamburgers are so popular that McDonald’s sells 75 hamburgers every second all over the world! The inventors of the hamburger is Louis Lassen, “Hamburger Charlie” Nagreen, and the Menches brothers. All these people are the inventors because all of them made their hamburger different. Louis Lassen made his hamburger different from the others with beef patties. “Hamburger Charlie” or Nagreen made his with meatballs when he was 15. And the Menches brothers made their hamburger with sausages. The websites I used are http://communitytable.parade.com/61481/toriavey/where-did-hamburgers-originate/ and http://aht.seriouseats.com/archives/2005/08/the_history_of.html

My Trip to Cancun  by Trinity

Last summer I went to Cancun and I had a blast. Cancun is in Mexico and it is very hot there. To get there we took a plane. The airport we went to was in Baltimore we would’ve gone to a closer airport, but closer airports didn’t have a flight to Cancun. To get on the plane we had to wait for a long time. When we got on I got to sit next to my mom, and my brother got to sit next to my dad. On the plane they gave us pretzels and drinks. On the way to Cancun it took about three or more hours. Since it was that long I brought my tablet and played it on the plane most of the time. For a couple minutes I was asleep because I had two get up early in the morning. When we arrived in Cancun we waited for a van to take us to our hotel.

When the guy dropped us off at our hotel Oasis Palm Resort we were really early, so we couldn’t check in. We at least got our bracelets, so we could play in the pool and eat there. The bracelets let us get our food without having to pay for everything every time. It was like free, but it really wasn’t free my parents paid ahead of time for the bracelets. My brother and I just couldn’t wait to get checked in so we could go in the ocean and play in the pool. While we were waiting we got fries and burgers. Then my parents wanted to eat at a breakfast place in the hotel.

“ If we’re eating at a breakfast place then why did we get fries and burgers?” my brother asked. “ Why didn’t we just eat at one place?”

“ We got both because we didn’t know that they had breakfast restaurants here.” my dad explained.

My brother and I were both complaining about how hot it was and why we couldn’t go in the pool or ocean yet. My parents told us because since we didn’t get our room yet we couldn’t change. It was so hot even inside the building, and I was burning because in East Earl it is hot during the summer but not as hot as Cancun. The restaurant we went to was inside the hotel. At the restaurant they had bacon, regular sausage, spicy sausage, mini potatoes, salads, mini pancakes, cereal, and fruits. For drinks they had pepsi, sprite, water, and other pepsi products. I got most of the things, but I didn’t get a salad or the spicy things. I also didn’t finish all my food and I didn’t finish my burger either. When we finished eating it time to check in, so my parents checked us in and got the keycard for the room.

“ Can we go to pool now we have the room now?” I questioned.

“ Not yet we still need to find our room and get our bathing suits on, but after that we can.” my mom said.

My brother Chandler and I were so glad it was finally time. When we found our room and put on our bathing suits we went back down the elevator we went to the beach first. My brother and I went in the ocean before my parents. When my parents came in they saw a blue fish in the water. The ocean we went in was a low tide ocean, that means the ocean has very little waves. We had to go back to our room because it was already three and we needed to eat lunch or dinner. We had to take showers because we just got out of the ocean and we were soaking wet.

So we took our showers and went to lunch. They had all these soups, meat, vegetables, and more food. After eating we walked on the beach and we saw emus and peacocks. I have a bad background of peacocks because when I was small at the Philadelphia zoo peacocks roamed and would always chase me. The next day we went to the pool. In the pool we just wanted to relax in it. We went in the pool without a juice bar because there were way too many people in the pool with the juice bar. My parents had to switch who was in the water because they didn’t want anyone to steal their phones. After swimming we tried another restaurant near us. The place we went to had sushi it was pretty good.

We had to wait in the line for a long time though. At night they had a show with fire and we got to watch it. They had people hula hooping with rings of fire and my brother thinks that the fire was fake, but I am not sure if he is right or wrong. We left early because we didn’t want to have to be pushed into the elevator. The next couple days they didn’t have anything that special, so we just played in the sand, beach, and pool most times. Our first excursion we went on was to Chi chi iesta one of the wonders of the world there they have a really big pyramid, what kids used to do for fun in the ancient times. One thing they told us was that each year they would have a sport that is like basketball, but it has a circle ring and you have to shoot the ball through it.

The crazy thing was that the winners of the game gave their spirits to their sacred gods or something and otherwise the will be punished for winning. They didn’t think it was punishment because they believed that when they die they come back to earth in a different body or figure. There was no shade there, so it was even hotter than it was at our hotel. Another excursion we went to was Xel-Ha at that place we got to go scuba diving, do a lazy river thing like when you sit in a tube above the water and relax, water park like activities, and obstacle courses above the water. I liked doing these things, but my favorite thing to do was there was a swing and you held on and you fell into the water.                                                                                                                                           I      My last day in Cancun was crazy we had to pack all of our things and get ready for the van to pick us up and take us to the airport. The plane flight home I stayed up the whole time, but at one point my whole family was asleep except for me. It felt like the plane ride there was longer than the plane ride back. My trip to Cancun was my favorite time spent with my family because we were together having fun and at the same time relaxing a little bit.

Ruby Bridges

a) How must have Ruby felt on her first day at Frantz Elementary School?
b) How did the public react to Frantz Elementary School’s desegregation?                       Trinity
c) How would you have felt if you were in Ruby’s shoes on that important day?

Ruby Bridges must have felt anxious on her first day at Frantz Elementary School because you can tell that Ruby was excited to go to school. She also must of felt nervous because all those people were yelling at her every time when she entered in the school. You can tell that Ruby is excited to go to school because the video mentioned that every day she had a smile on her face. She must of also been scared because all the people in the mob sounded like they wanted to hurt her. And I say anxious because anxious is like excited, nervous, and scared.

How people reacted to Frantz Elementary School’s desegregation was very rude. I say that how they reacted was rude because if every time a mob of people were yelling at you and calling your names you would think that that is mean and rude. People didn’t like the desegregation because they didn’t even send their children to school before that’s how much they didn’t like the desegregation.

If I was in Ruby’s shoes on the first important day I would cry and probably not  want  to go back to school even though I loved to learn because I would not like it if every time I walked into school someone was yelling at me I would be scared because of that. And I would feel sad  because nobody went to school with Ruby, so Ruby couldn’t play, talk, sit, or learn with other children that’s why I would be sad.

My Friend’s House

Today I’m going to a friend’s house she always has something fun for us to do. My friend’s name is Mia she lives at the top of a hill. She has a little sister named Isabelle. Her house has many things to do even though it isn’t a mansion. When it was finally time for our play date my mom and I hopped into the car. She drove to Mia’s house and dropped me off. Before she leaves my mom and Mia’s mom always discuss what time my mom should pick me up.

“ Make sure you are good here or else you won’t be able to come back here again.” my mom warned. “And make sure you let Mia pick what you guys do.”

“ I will mom, remember pick me up in two hours.” I told her.

When I walked into the house Mia told me to follow her. She took me upstairs across her small balcony outside then into her favorite tree. Mia and I had lots of memories here, this is where we played and told secrets with each other. This is like where Mia and I grew up with each other. Whenever I came over this is where we hung out most of the time. Inside the tree we painted and hung up pictures for memories. Each time I come over we paint another picture together. Mia’s parents got the idea to build this house the way it is because when Mia’s parents were little they were best friends.

Together they would watch the birds grow. They wanted to make a house that brings back memories for Mia, so they made the inside of a tree Mia’s playroom. Their house kind of looks like a big bird house because it has in front and back like a little perch area for birds. Inside the tree if you climb the ladder down, and you look up it looks really cool. As we started painting a picture Mia’s dad walked in the room, and told us to go back in the house. We went back inside and Mia’s mom was cooking.

“ Come and eat girls.” she demanded as we came down the stairs. “ You must be hungry the last time you ate was breakfast.” she said.

“ I’m starving.” we both shouted. “ What’s for lunch mom?” asked Mia.

“ We’re having macaroni and cheese today.” Mia’s mom told her.

When we were done eating we finished our painting inside the tree. We drew each other inside the tree then took a photograph of us in the tree and put both pictures up. Mia had to go into her room to get tape to put the pictures up. Her room has slanted walls on two sides because her room is like a finished attic, and her house has stairs leading up to her room. Mia letting me go in her favorite tree is special because she doesn’t even let her little sister Isabelle inside the tree. Isabelle shares a bedroom with Mia and that’s mostly why she doesn’t let her in the tree because Isabelle makes their bedroom messy.

After hanging up both pictures we watched movies on her TV in the tree. I think about why her parents put a TV in the tree, but not even in their own room. And I always think about why they made their house the way it is, but Mia says because they want their house to be unique and to have lots of character. After watching a couple minutes of TV Mia’s mom made a pie, so Mia and I raced back into the house because they left the windows open and we smelled pie. Then they each ate two pieces of pie. After eating pie my mom arrived and I thought that two hours went so fast. When my mom arrived I said bye to Mia’s family. And on the way back I told my mom about the things we did.
