Parts of a story

Dear Parents ,

We are continuing to learn about the parts of a story.  We have learned about characters, setting and events in a story.  We will be starting to learn about how the parts of a story are connected.  This can be a challenging concept for First Graders so we will continue to develop this concept through discussion and activities in whole group reading, shared readings, and small group reading.  Below is a cute video with children showing their understanding of this concept.

Sight Words

Hi Parents,

Thank you for all of the extra time you have been spending practicing sight words with your children at home.  Most of the children moved to a new Sight Word list this past week.  Yeah!

I thought the children might enjoy practicing in a different way.  Below I’ve listed some links that have sight word practice and songs.  Just click on the link and Enjoy!

Impromptu Class Play

The children loved making masks and learning lines to put on an impromptu class play based on our anthology story Where Are All My Animal Friends?  The children made their masks all by themselves and were very proud of them.  We even invited Miss Martin’s first grade class to view a second run of the play.  Great fun was had by all!!!
