Welcome Back!

Dear Parents,

What a pleasure it has been to get to know your children this last week and a half.  They are full of energy and ready to learn.  It is wonderful to see their friendships grow already this year.

I am looking forward to meeting many of you tomorrow night at Back to School Night (6:30).  Hope to see you there.

Counting Money

Coins

In class we have been working on counting coins.  I’ve noticed this skill has gotten more difficult for some children perhaps because they don’t actually see coins used as often as the ease of electronic payment has increased.

On our Math page I’ve added some links to online games where your child can practice identifying and counting coins.  When you get a chance please take a look at them.

Thanksgiving Feast

Last week we had a great time preparing for the feast.  With the help of three of our moms, Mrs. Hechler, Mrs. Sauder, and Mrs. Parker, the children enjoyed peeling apples, mixing pumpkin, and rolling out pie crust.

At our Thanksgiving Feast we enjoyed turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and corn muffins with Mrs. Brier and Mrs. Woods classes.  Please take a look at our slideshow below.

Back to Room 105

I am very excited to tell you that our class has moved back to Room 105.  Our original classroom that is now new and improved.  The children are excited about their new desks and many new spaces.  I am looking forward to seeing each of you on December 6th for our Family Read and a peek at our new class.

Back to School 2013

Brecknock Elementary has been a busy place with all of the construction going on, new furniture being delivered, and teachers getting ready in our classrooms.  We are all excited to get started again and for the opportunity to work with your children.

At this time we do not have a sink in our classroom so please send a water bottle (with a pop-top lid) with your child to school.  They will be sent home each night to be refilled.

Enjoy these last few days of summer!

P.S.  There is new playground equipment which I know the children will be excited to use.

Impromptu Class Play

The children loved making masks and learning lines to put on an impromptu class play based on our anthology story Where Are All My Animal Friends?  The children made their masks all by themselves and were very proud of them.  We even invited Miss Martin’s first grade class to view a second run of the play.  Great fun was had by all!!!

Thanksgiving Fun!

Our Thanksgiving celebration was a lot of fun.  The children enjoyed making vests, headbands, and tablecloths.  Our contribution was dessert.  We had a great time making pies with the help of our wonderful volunteers a few days ahead of time.  The children all enjoyed the turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing balls, corn muffins, and pumpkin or apple pie.  They did a great job sharing what they are thankful for.  Many of them mentioned how they were thankful for their families.  Please click below to enjoy some pictures.
