Up and Running!

September17

English Language Arts/ Social Studies

We had a busy couple of weeks going over expectations, writing our constitution and practicing our routines. We go through some Fastbridge testing, IXL diagnostic and Achieve leveling!

We are researching the united nations Global goals and learning more about each one. In collaboration groups we are reading the graphic comic book “Heroes for Change” and the “The World We Want”.  We are using these texts to  summarize our findings and use evidence to discuss our thoughts.

We are really enjoying our read aloud  A Long Walk to Water  by  Linda Sue Park.  This is an incredible story of courage, persistence and resilience. Ask your kids about it!

Math

In Math we are working on using visual models such as fraction bars, number lines, and area models to show the quotient of whole numbers and fractions.  Our learners are using those models to show the relationship to the multiplication of fractions.

Another outcome is for learners to understand the difference between a whole number being divided by a fraction and a fraction being divided by a whole number.

Our learners are practicing with materials from Engage NY, Xtra Math and IXL.

Grouping

Now that we have some solid data we will be starting interventions Wednesday September 18th. Our learners are in groups and we are rotating within our classrooms smoothly!
