Natalie Wirta – Veterinary Internship

This semester, I had the opportunity to intern at New Holland Veterinary in New Holland, PA. On an average day, I assist the vet techs and staff with many tasks, including laundry, washing and wrapping surgical packs, setting up and cleaning up stations, including surgery and dental. I also assist with checking on pets during and after surgery. I could also scrub in during a splenectomy and assist Dr. Lantz.

The staff has given me a fantastic opportunity. I have learned much about the vet career and what it means to be a part of the team. I am so thankful to be included in all of the staff’s tasks and for their understanding and patience with me throughout this journey. I have grown to have a deeper understanding of what it means to be a Veterinarian thanks to them.

I have seen many unique and amazing things throughout these past few months. I have learned to stay calm in stressful situations, help where needed, and be there for every staff member. My favorite days are when there is a C-section, and I welcome new lives into the world and help them begin their journey for the rest of their lives.

This internship has shown me that I could do nothing for my future career and that you can love your job and perform it well. Thank you again for this internship, from the slow days to the days you can’t seem to take a second to breathe. It, indeed, has been an incredible few months. Thank you to Jami for this opportunity.
