Angela Nuse – Medical Internship

I am Angela Nuse, interning at Friendship Community at a group home in New Holland. This placement is providing me with education in the medical field and is giving me some insight into what I could do as a possible career choice.

I do many different tasks at my job. The most common daily tasks are cooking, serving food, doing dishes, cleaning up, and doing laundry. These are all daily tasks that must be done to keep the house moving smoothly. I also have been doing a lot of organizing and cleaning of bedrooms. One big thing is that we make the house feel like a normal home for the individuals, so we all keep the house clean. I worked with one individual recently and helped him go through and organize his movie collection, while also making a list of his movies.

Something new that I got to experience was making a food menu for an individual. The gentleman I made the menu for has quite a few diet restrictions due to his health conditions. I got to take the time and learn more about his treatment while also creating a menu and discovering recipes he can enjoy. I really enjoyed this because I got to look more into what has to go into the planning of the diet of someone with health issues.

This experience has made me realize how much I want to pursue a career in the medical field. I have really enjoyed being able to help these individuals. I also have gotten a closer look into what I want to do in the medical field. The supervisors and team members at Friendship Community have told me a lot about what they did before working there, so I have gotten to hear about many other experiences.  I am very thankful for the opportunity to intern with Friendship Community
