Seth Brighton – Warehousing & Manufacturing Co-Op

My name is Seth Brighton. Throughout the first semester, I worked at  AMS, a warehouse job where I did shipping for many different businesses. As a seasonal employee, I was let go after their busy season.  I just got hired at Casual Living Unlimited where I manufacture outdoor furniture.

When I first started working at AMS I was excited to work somewhere other than a fast-food business. It was somewhere I could grow as a person and a worker.  I learned a few different things from shipping different products, learning to really work as a team with certain tasks, and how to fill out shipment papers. Working in a warehouse is just what you can imagine it would be, a big open area with different companies all being packed onto either a pallet or thrown in a big UPS box that is shipped and sorted.

I left warehousing and decided to get into manufacturing. I saw manufacturing as another job to learn something new and something new to add to my resume for future opportunities. I’ve been working at Casual Living for about 2 weeks now and I’ve been enjoying it so far. I work on lawn chairs or any kind of outside furniture. So far, I’ve learned how to put the backs of the chairs together or assemble the legs of the chairs.  Whatever station I’m on that day is what I assemble for part of the furniture.

Throughout my work experience since starting those two jobs, I’ve enjoyed learning and knowing all sorts of different things. I think it’s good that I’ve had the chance to work two different jobs with two different working environments because it gives me a larger number of skills.
