Pathways to Success

Garden Spot High School

Luke Steiner – Construction Co-Op

Hello, my name is Luke Steiner, and I am a senior at Garden Spot High School. I am enrolled in the co-op program and am currently working at Country Lane Gazebos located in New Holland, PA. I work as a parts specialist at Yard Craft, which is one of Country Lane Gazebos’ many shops, where I build the smaller parts of gazebos and pergolas.

When I first started working at Country Lane I started at Yard Craft doing smaller jobs. I started off by drilling holes, feeding and catching wood through a machine, and wrapping and packaging finished products. The longer I worked there and gained more experience, the more jobs they gave me, and the more responsibilities I had. Once they gave me more responsibilities, they allowed me to start building cupolas, braces, and other detailed parts of a gazebo.

After working here for a few months, there are many jobs I can accomplish. If they need help at other shops or other jobs, I can do so and will do it efficiently. It is not too hard to pick up how to get the hang of things, all you need is the dedication to do so, and a little guidance. It becomes very easy to perform a new job once I get the reason behind why it needs to be done and how it needs to be done. And once I do the job a few times, and get the gist of it, I am just as efficient as my co-workers.

I have learned a great number of important things by working at Country Lane Gazebos. Working there has taught me a lot about the future that I have in plan. I enjoy the building part of my job, but most of the other jobs that are outside of that are not my favorite. Once I am out of high school I would like to find a job that is strictly building, whether that is still with Country Lane, or even with another company.
