Cheyenne Martin – Plant Grower Co-Op
My name is Cheyenne Martin. I am a senior at Garden Spot High School, and I am in the Co-op program. For my Co-op, I work at Esbenshade’s Greenhouse at their Lititz location. I started working at Esbenshade’s at the end of August.
At Esbenshade’s, I am a Grower Apprentice, which means I am learning about growing plants. Over time, I will become a Master Grower. One of the tasks that I do most days at work is watering plants. My tasks vary on what is being grown in the greenhouse. In the greenhouse, we just finished growing poinsettias for Christmas. I helped grow cyclamen and helped get them ready for orders. Also, I started helping with planting cuttings for the spring.
At Esbenshade’s, I have learned several skills. I have learned how much water to give plants and how to run different watering systems in the greenhouses. Also, I learned how to take plant cuttings and how to plant those cuttings. I enjoy planting plant cuttings and seeing them grow.
After high school, I would like to continue working at Esbenshade’s Greenhouse. I have enjoyed getting to work part of the school day and it helped me figure out what I want to do after high school. I would recommend the Co-op program for people who are not sure what they want to do after high school because it is helpful in helping you figure out what you like to do.
