Pathways to Success

Garden Spot High School

Cloe Martin – Secondary Education Internship

My name is Cloe Martin, and I am a part of the internship program at Garden Spot High School. My internship is taking place at Garden Spot High School, with Mrs. Trimble, the secondary German teacher. I also work with other teachers and subs to help the students learn a new language.

In a teaching internship, every day is a little different.  The common tasks that I do are, play small review games with the students, check their answers, help them with any questions, and observe the lesson. The students in my internship class are great! They are quick learners and are interested in the German language, culture, and history. I think that being curious and interested in the class or subject helps immensely with learning and studying the information. The students are doing very well in the class and continue to impress me and make me smile.

I also help Mrs. Trimble more directly by completing small tasks that would take time out of class or her prep time. I have created review games for her and the other German teacher Mrs. Rohrer. I remind her of details and provide input from my time in German classes. I have taught a lesson to the class and I will continue to do that kind of help but I also do very small, mundane tasks like printing, copying, and laminating papers. I am currently making the student’s bingo boards to practice the German words for animals, after I finish creating them on the computer, I will be laminating them so Mrs. Trimble or Mrs. Rohrer can use them in years to come.

This opportunity has been amazing, I love getting to know the kids and helping them learn a language that I think is so interesting and beautiful. I have learned a lot of new skills and I have observed ways that Mrs. Trimble teaches that make her great at her job. She has been really helpful in giving me small, incredibly useful tips that make teaching easier and more enjoyable. I am really considering this as my future career, I definitely want to pursue some career with a focus on German or language.
