Jd Hahn – Construction Co-Op

I am currently working at Sheds Unlimited which is located in Morgantown, PA. I have been working there for about 2 months.  My job description is a “finisher” which means that I work on pre-built sheds by installing the siding, windows, doors, and trim pieces. On a regular day, I work with 1 – 3 other people but there are over 20 people in the same building as me.

When I first started there was a lot of standing and watching what they were doing to learn the techniques. I first learned how to put on sidings and then I learned how to put starters and metal flashing on. The longer that I’ve been there the more jobs they give me. As they watch me grow, they begin to trust me with more important jobs, ones that make a big difference.

Now that I’ve been there for a while I can easily tell which stage each shed is at and what needs to be done next. I’ll jump in wherever I’m needed. At my job, you have to be very detailed to ensure accuracy.  This means that I must ask my foreman if things look ok or things need to be replaced. The environment at Sheds Unlimited is very fun and playful but also serious and professional. Some of the reasons for this is because my boss/foreman is an old friend that I’ve known from a young age.

I’ve learned so much from Sheds Unlimited and have a much better understanding of sheds and how things work and look. I definitely would say that my mindset in construction has changed. Previously I worked at Concrete Authority where I would be working outside in various weather environments.  It is so refreshing to work inside in a controlled climate. I would like to stay in this field of work.
