Pathways to Success

Garden Spot High School

Deborah Stoltzfus – Accounting & Marketing Internship

My name is Deborah and I am a senior at Garden Spot High School. During my senior year, I have an opportunity to work at EWBN in New Holland. EWBN is a hardscape/landscape business, they do landscape and hardscape in the spring, summer, and fall then in the winter they snowplow, and they finish basements.  At EWBN I am doing marketing, and some financing and organization. My regular tasks each day would include organizing files, putting information in quick books, and improving our name, and make the business stand out more.

I have always been a creative person, but I never thought I would jump into marketing and the business area. Marketing lets me put a new vision out to the world and a new idea and it lets me put my own styles on things. On the side of marketing, I get to do some organization with files and putting them in order by the customer’s last name or alphabetical order. I have been enjoying organizing, it is a way to stay on task and know where every item is always.

I have been trying to figure out what I want to do in my future. And when I had this opportunity, I made sure that I would not turn down this perfect opportunity to learn something that I would love to do in my future. My internship gives me the opportunity to interact with customers, to learn more about the base of the business, and to become more professional with customers and other businesses. I have been more and more interested in marketing and the business area. I would love to grow into the marketing side more, and I even would enjoy combining marketing and photography together.

One of my future career goals is going to work excited to work. I heard many stories about adults going to work but they’re not enjoying their job. But they must because they need the money for bills, groceries and to have money for his or her family.  This experience has influenced my future career goals because having a job that I would really enjoy is important to me and I want to find a career that challenges me but have fun at the same time.
