Pathways to Success

Garden Spot High School

Carley Ulrich – Education Internship

Hello, my name is Carley Ulrich and I am a senior here at Garden Spot High School. I plan on attending college to major in early childhood education. I am interning at Garden Spot High school with Ms. Kilgore in the English department. My internship occurs five days a week during block three with a group of 20 ninth-grade students in person and two online. Although being in a ninth-grade English class was not my first choice, it has helped me grow stronger in everyday skills.

During my internship, I walk in not knowing what I will be doing for the day. It all depends on what the class is doing and what Ms. Kilgore needs help with. Some of the tasks I have done while at my internship are putting achieve grades in, creating bell ringers, helping students with assignments, and making copies.  Although every day is different one of the tasks that I am always in charge of is monitoring the zoom chat and answering the student’s question. I was given the opportunity to teach two lessons in front of the class. I was also able to lead and help the class for a week while Ms. Kilgore was out sick.

My experience with Ms. Kilgore`s ninth-grade class has helped me grow in skills that I would have not been able to grow without this experience.  Working with ninth-graders has been tiring but also rewarding. Since the maturity of ninth graders is not very high, I was able to work on my patience. I was also able to grow in my speaking skills and time management skills.
