Cassidy Hoover – Social Work Internship

My name is Cassidy Hoover and this spring I am continuing my internship at CrossNet Ministries in New Holland. Despite my time there being cut short, I have very much enjoyed interning there. Since I started, the Crossnet staff has shown me so much kindness and taught me so much about ministry. This semester, I got to experience more face to face interactions with the participants, donors, and staff.

My daily routine at CrossNet looks different every day. At the beginning of the semester, I did a lot of office and administrative work. For example, I cut out flyers, answered the phones, made candy bags for community meals, and more. It also was not unusual for me to be behind the front desk greeting and answering phones. I always enjoyed greeting people and hearing some of their stories. In March, I helped get things ready for the annual prom dress giveaway. It was a cool experience to interact with and encourage the girls who came. Another part of my internship is observation. I attended several staff meetings and observed a home visit. Before school was shut down, I was also working on a presentation that explains the donation process and running a non-profit organization.

Through this internship, I have discovered a calling to social work and ministry. I see the difference Crossnet makes in their participants’ lives and it inspires me. At CrossNet, I have seen people who are hurting or need a little bit of help, and it breaks my heart. It truly has changed my outlook on life and how I live. I have learned to look at people through God’s eyes rather than my own. Because of this internship, I have decided to major in social work in college. My hope is to learn how to understand people and help them the best I can.

In conclusion, CrossNet has become home. The staff has treated me like part of their family, despite the circumstances. CrossNet continues to help people in need even in these troubled times. I have learned so much from Crossnet’s determination to serve God’s people. Perhaps their mission statement says it all, “CrossNet Ministries exists to offer help and hope in the name of Jesus Christ by empowering people in the Elanco Community.”
