Pathways to Success

Garden Spot High School

Brian Beck – Mechanical Co-Op

I am a senior in the Pathways2Success Cooperative Education Program at Garden Spot High School this year. This class helps teach us skills we may need to move forward in our jobs. We also learn about important concepts like taxes, health insurance, and retirement.

I am currently working at Mister Car Wash in Ephrata, PA. Right now, I am detailing cars, cleaning out the insides with industrial vacuums, and hanging air fresheners. I also ask people if they want their car detailed right after they come out of the wash tunnel. If they refuse I thank them for coming and encourage them to come again. My Future career goal is to stay at Mister Car Wash for a while and maybe learn how to work in the wash tunnel. I also would try to become a team leader or team driver.

My future education and career goals are to go to a trade school and learn how to become an auto and diesel mechanic. From there I will apply to many local garages for an entry-level mechanic position. I may stay at Mister Car Wash to make extra money to help me pay for any future education or training that I feel is necessary.  I may consider attending LBC to take business classes so I can own my own business someday.

The things I learned in co-op have helped prepare me for interviews, taught me how to get noticed in the workforce and at job fairs, and helped me become more confident in speaking new people and introducing myself.  I feel more prepared to be independent in my life and career.
