Pathways to Success

Danny Hibberd – Mechanical Co-Op

From June 2017 through October 2017 I was working at New Holland Church Furniture.  My job was to assemble the kneelers and ends, put felt on book racks and chairs, and load the box truck or trailers with our inventory to be shipped to the customer.  Typically, I started my day in the finishing room where I took out all the finished furniture that was ready to get shipped so the work wasn’t backed up for the finishing crew.  Once we get the finishing room cleaned out then we assembled the products that the finishing department completed from the previous day.  This job taught me a lot about teamwork since the majority of my jobs required working with at least one other person.

Recently I changed jobs to work at Groff Tractor where I am a Yard Man.  My first month on the job was to assist the mechanics with any work that they needed help with.  During that time the mechanics were able to observe my mechanical skills and work ethic.  Now, they are beginning to give me my own jobs.  Right now I am working on a backhoe where I am replacing an AC condenser, putting on new tires, and installing a new front grill.  My goal is to become a full-time mechanic at Groff Tractor when I graduate.

The Pathways2Success class is allowing me more opportunities to work and enhance my mechanical skills through on the job training than I would have if I was in a traditional education program.  Because of this class, I am further ahead than many of my peers.
