Roy Bramm – Feed & Mechanical Co-Op

My name is Roy Bramm and I am currently am in the Pathways2Success Cooperative Education program. After school each day, I go to my current place of employment which is River Feed and Supply, which is located on Old Philadelphia Pike in Lancaster.

My job duties have a wide range of responsibilities. My job title is Feed Bagger which entails mixing and making feed, using the equipment to bag the feed, and stacking the bags of feed after we have made a batch. Other than that, I do many tasks like setting up bulk bags under the conveyors, sweeping up after the day is done, working on the machinery when something breaks, helping to organize the storage area for the feed, organizing the shop, and helping to mix batches of feed. Some challenges that I have experienced are making sure that when I stack a batch of feed bags, I need to make sure that the bags are stacked tight and neat, because sometimes a whole skid will go out at once, and it needs to hold together for the deliverers. Some successes are that I have learned a lot of what it takes to make a feed company operate and that it takes a good hired staff to make sure that the day’s work gets done.

Working at this feed mill has taught me that hard work and dedication does pay off and doesn’t go unnoticed. Soon my job here at River Feed and Supply will be eliminated because the feed mill is moving to a new location. Because of this I recently applied and was hired at Garden Spot Frame and Alignment in Leola where I will be working as a diesel mechanic. Being a diesel mechanic has been a dream of mine because I enjoy working with heavy equipment and I believe it will provide me with a happy and successful life.
