Pathways to Success

Garden Spot High School

Luke Hahn – Construction Co-Op

Pathways2Success Cooperative Education allows me to earn credits for school while making money. Since I have started at High Concrete I have learned a lot of new and valuable skills. I am thankful for this opportunity to get an early start on my career. In the classroom, we are shown many different job fields. We cover helpful topics such as interviewing skills and healthcare.

I currently work for High Concrete Group in Denver, PA. They are one of the eleven divisions of High Industries. I was assigned to the pouring crew because of my past concrete work experience. My shift is from 11am-5pm. We are responsible to pour in all the precast pieces after they are set up by the framing and production crews.

Through this job, I have learned every step of the concrete process, including, wet float, wrist pins, steel plates, finish trowel, and cover. After I graduate I hope to eventually help run the family company, but until then I will keep improving my skills through employment.

Because of my experience in the Pathways class, I can read and understand industry prints and know more about how a large concrete company runs. I now feel more prepared than my classmates to work, make money, and be successful.
