Language Arts

Welcome to the Language Arts information page.

Each week in language arts, students will explore a new story in Reading Street. In a normal week, students will receive new spelling words on Monday.

Tests in spelling and reading will normally be given on a Friday.

Spelling – students can find a current list of words, as well as practice through games by clicking on Spelling City through Symbaloo

or go to http://www.spellingcity.com/teacherK33/

Homework

Students should read for 20 minutes every night. In addition, students are asked to respond to their book once a week. This reading log is due every Friday signed by a parent. Logs can be put in the blue reader journal, on loose leaf or on the reading log sheet (copies are in the red bin in class). Spelling homework is also due Fridays. Students need to do 3 spelling practices a week. They can choose any combination from the Spelling Tic Tac Toe boards and/or Spelling City practice games. Please click the homework tab for any other assignments due.

My goal is for students to read, read and read some more. This year, my students have a personal goal to read 40 chapter books. Each student will keep track of every book they finish. At the end of the year, we will have a little celebration for all the students who reach this goal.
