Hello students and parents!
The school year is in full swing and homework assignments are starting! Here is some information for both subjects to help you have success at home.
Students have reading homework Monday through Thursday. Every student should read for a minimum of 15 minutes a night and record each reading in his/her reading log. The reading log is dated so both students and parents know when there is an assignment.
Reading can occur in the following ways: independently, aloud, or with a partner. Parents, please take interest in the types of books your child is reading and ask questions about the stories. Questions such as, “Who is the main character?, Where is the setting?, What is the plot?” You can also ask your child to summarize what he/she has read so far.
Spelling pretests will be given each Monday. A spelling list will come home with the pretest. The final test will occur on Friday. (In the event that we do not have school on a Monday, the spelling schedule will be pushed back one day.) While I do not assign spelling homework, your child is encouraged to practice spelling the words at home. Refer to the list of ways to practice spelling in your child’s homework folder.
Please note: The first 20 list words follow the named pattern. The last 5 words are challenge words that do not necessarily follow that pattern.
Students have math homework on Wednesday and Thursday only. It is beneficial for students to practice the skill(s) with me in class Monday through Wednesday before asking them to apply what they learned independently. If you notice that your child is having difficulty with a particular assignment or on a portion of an assignment, please write a note on the paper itself so I know exactly what to help your child with. He/she will not lose a yard on his/her D.A.W.G. field for an incomplete assignment.
Xtra math and IXL math are computer programs used daily at school. While they are not homework assignments, your child is more than welcome to login at home for extra practice. Papers were sent home explaining the focus and benefits of each program.
Please feel free to email me at any time with questions! (firstname.lastname@example.org)
The fall 2015 season starts on Monday, September 14 from 3:45pm-5:15pm. Girls should remember to bring the following:
- athletic attire
- a water bottle
- a healthy snack (ex. fruit, veggies, crackers)
- a positive attitude
See you then!
**Due to early dismissal on Wednesday, September 16, GOTR will not meet.
T’was the night before school started
when all through the town,
the parents were cheering
it was a riotous sound.
By eight the kids were washed
and tucked into bed,
when memories of homework
filled them with dread.
New pencils, new folders, new notebooks too,
New teachers, new friends- their anxiety grew.
The parents just giggled when they learned of this fright.
And shouted upstairs-
GO TO BED- IT’S A SCHOOL NIGHT!!
