The Runaway Orphans Chapter 2: Captured!

The Runaway Orphans: Chapter 2:

  Captured!

If you haven’t read chapter 1 of The Runaway Orphans, do that before reading this because you won’t understand what’s going on.

Their neighbor was standing a few feet away, when he walked past them and went around the corner.  Mark, surprised said,” we’d better get out of here, quick before he comes back.” The orphans quietly got onto their feet, and peeked around the corner.  There he was standing right there only a couple of yards away. The orphans then realized that fleeing the scene would be too much of a risk and that they should stay put until he goes around the corner. There he was getting farther, his footsteps pounding against the grass.

When he was about 3 steps away from the next corner he suddenly turned around and started walking in the way of the orphans.  Realizing that they would caught they started running in the other direction. They peeked around the corner and saw their neighbor running around the other corner in their direction. They panicked.  His back door was a few feet away from them and right now it seemed like their only hope.

“Quick, in here.” Said Abigail.  They quickly ran in the door before their neighbor could see them.  “That was a close one.” Said Abigail. “We’d better hide, he’s going to be back soon.” Said Mark.  Mark glared across the room and saw a door. “That looks like the basement door.” Said Mark. They quickly ran over to the door and pulled it.  Sure enough, there were steps going down. “Let’s go.” Said Mark. As fast as they could and as quiet as could be they started going down the steps.

When they got down, they hid behind a couple of boxes in the dark, silent room.  Just then they heard the back door open. “Uh, oh.” Said Mark. Seconds turned to minutes, minutes turned to hours.  Suddenly, the basement door opened. Seconds later, the room was flooded with light, and footsteps began pounding the steps.  “What are we going to do?” Whispered Mark. “I don’t know.” Said Abigail. Just then a voice said,” dad, where is the freezer again?” Then a voice replied,“ Look behind the 3 boxes stacked on top of each other.”

Just then, they heard footsteps walking toward them.  “Hey, what are you doing here?” A voice said. “We are trying to hide from your dad, he is trying to steal our fortune.” Said Abigail.  “Why are you hiding here though?” said the girl. “We have to escape this house before your dad steals our fortune.” The girl didn’t seem too happy, her face looked angry.  “I’m telling my dad you’re down here.” Just then she started walking upstairs. Quickly, the orphans looked for an escape. There was only 1 window, but they weren’t able to get to it.  Just then, they heard 2 pairs of footsteps walking down the steps. “Come out orphans, I know you’re down here. Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. Just give me your fortune, or I’ll make you.”  It seemed hopeless that the orphans would get out. There was no escape.

To be continued…

1 Thought.

  1. I like how you changed the circumstances in order to make them run into his house. There are a few grammar errors before your quotation marks, but overall it was very well written. I wonder why they didn’t try to keep the girl down there so she didn’t tell her dad. I hope that in the next chapter they escape. You did a great job getting me hooked! Keep Writing!
