My Trip to Washington D.C.

Posted on

This previous Friday me and my entire 6th grade peers took a trip to Washington D.C. It was really rainy, but we still had a good time. We were able to choose between three different museums to go to. One was the Natural History Museum (Smithsonian), another was the Air and Space National Museum (Smithsonian), and the last was The National Museum of American History (Smithsonian.) I attended the Natural History museum, and I think you should too. The world’s most famous or fulfilled  natural history museum is dedicated to interpretation the natural world and our place or living in it. Delve into the magnificent story of our planet, from its flaming beginnings through billions of years of conversion, and explore life on Earth through exhibits and fun/historic  activities, collection objects and research that happens in the lab and in the field. The museum is larger than 18 football fields and is home to the largest natural history collection in the world. I know right! this museum is filled with greatness of history and understanding of the world today, and years ago. I mean I wouldn’t want to play football in the place, I think a bit to big. This is why you should visit this museum.

Be smart and go to this museum, It has a live butterfly exhibit, a cafe, and I SAW A T-REX skeleton, could it get any better than that? I mean space is cool and all, but there’s a whole room full of diamond. I’m just saying, pick this museum you won’t regret it.

Not only did we get the chance to see the different museums we were able to see different monuments as well. I think that the WWll memorial is the best to go to. In 1993, the president at the time president clinton, signed a form making regards to get a memorial in D.C. for WWll. It has plaques for every state in the U.S. I took a photo in front of different states that represented me. There is also a large water fountain in the middle of the entire memorial. This memorial glorifies the people who fought. Friedrich St. Florian winning’s design and skill evens out the  classical and modernist styles of architecture, harmonizes with its natural and cultural surroundings, and brings together the legacy of the American Revolution and the American Civil War. This is why you should visit this memorial.

As you can see D.C. I full of magnificent sights, but just know that the places I gave you are the best of the best. This is why you should visit these places in Washington D.C.

How Dance Inspires me!

Posted on

I have been dancing since I have been around 3 years old. Not many people danced in my family and if they did it was a long time ago. The reason I began Dancing was because of my Uncle. He was a great dancer and even made it on a dance t.v. show, but I forget was it’s called. My mom and nanny always say that he used to shimmy my shoulders and I used to love it. The older I got the more I fell in love with dance. I wasn’t taking any classes at the time, but I will say I was still pretty good. At the moment I dance at Laurel Dance Company and I love dancing there. My dance team are all so supportive and great dancers, and my teacher is fun and inspiring. When I dance I feel like I am myself, and that I’m expressing who I am. This is how dance inspires me.

Meet Duncan!

Posted on

This is Duncan! (Not actual photo of him, it just looks like him) My bunny Duncan is a dutch bunny and he’s fairly medium in size. He absolutely loves to cuddle and he always wants attention. One thing he does it acts like a dog. When we whistle he comes after us, if we have food we’ll place it on the ground and he will chase after it like it’s his trick. In may he will be one. His brother marshall passed away last year due to sickness, Duncan realized he was gone and missed him, but eventually went back to his normal self. His favorite food is obviously regular bunny food, his favorite snack is carrots or crackers. Taking care of a bunny is a lot of work. You have to clean their cages once a week, they are suppose to be out of there cage up to 2 hours a day, they can’t be inside, outside they need to stay in one place, and they need to be neutered when they are 6 months old unless you’re planning on having them breed. Duncan wasn’t neutered because me and my brother on planning on having him breed around August. Duncan enjoys being outside in the grass, but he can’t for too long because his body is already adapted to the inside. He enjoys cuddling and falling asleep in a blanket. He loves to be scratched/pet on his head, and he absolutely loves to hide in dark places. This is my bunny Duncan.

The time stood up for someone!

Posted on

I have stood up for several people before, and sometimes the same person. One example is that  I have stood up for someone at school. This friend of mine got bullied EVERYDAY and she was so sad. I knew how it felt to get bullied and how bad it feels, so I really wanted to help. People would make fun of this person for being ‘Weird” and “different” but I truthfully thought this person was super sweet, and was just their own person. They would call this person “ugly”, “unusual” and just so many mean things. I could tell this person was sad and wasn’t happy, so one time when a group of people started making fun of this person , and calling them ugly I stood up for them. I said ” How would you feel if people all over school called you ugly, or weird? Exactly, not that great. How would you feel if you had no friends? you would feel lonely. This person did nothing to you, and they were just being themselves. Please, stop being immature and rude and start being nice and friendly.” They all really didn’t say much after that they all walked away. The person thanked me and was so happy someone finally stood up for them. Now here in sixth grade I am their friend and a lot of people enjoy their company and humor. As you can see if one person does something for another person it can change the perspective of others and make everyone friends.

My sister is just like Byron!

Posted on

My younger sister reminds me a lot of Byron. I know she is a girl, but she is almost exactly like Byron. One example is that just 5 days ago my younger sister turned 10 and is now in her double digits. Since she is 10 she thinks she is all that and that she is a awesome person or better because she is 10 now. Just like Byron is a Juvenile delinquent and he thinks that it is cool to not be touched or to touch anyone. Another example is that she is always trying to argue or have a fight. She gets angry fast just like Byron and she is always rough with me, and you’d think it would be the other way around. She is also very judgmental, She is a tomboy and I like girlier things than her so she makes fun of me or aggravates me with it. It’s just like Byron makes fun of Kenny because he is smarter than anyone else. The last example is that she is rude, rough and judgmental, but she still cares. Just like Byron with Kenny he is always mean to him, but he still cares for him. My sister still supports me in my hobbies even if they annoy her sometimes, and she is still always by my side. This is how my sister is like Byron.

Bud, Not Buddy Essay!

Posted on

It is my opinion that you should read Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis. This story takes place in 1936, during the Great Depression in Flint, Michigan. Bud, the main character, is a 10 year old little boy who goes through many foster homes who have mistreated him. He decides to run away from all the chaos to find his father because his mother died when he was six. He struggles and goes through many events and eventually finds the right home and the right family. It gives information about a fictional boy, but faces realistic problems. You will enjoy how the author creates a dynamic character because Bud has so many different sides to him. He is very different and changes throughout the story, he describes things very well and helps me visualize things, and his point of view or perspective in the story is very strong.

My favorite thing about Bud, Not Buddy is the way Bud develops through the story and how much he changes, and learns. In the beginning of the story Bud starts out as a some foster kid whose mom died, and has no idea where, or who is father is, but that is how other people saw him. When you really imagine Bud then you can see who he really is. In the beginning Bud is just a little boy with a imagination. He wants to figure out what to do with his sad miserable life, without any parents. He is determined and isn’t a baby, or wimp. Bud is brave and is always ready for something. Bud stays that  way the whole time, but he also changes. Bud ends up becoming more aware of things. Like the one part in the book when he saw the cardboard town, he never knew something so gloomy, and sad existed he experienced something new and it definitely put him on edge and changed him. Bud even said “ Well, what’re we going to do? We can’t just go busting in this city and expect someone to feed us.” The reason I chose this sentence was because you can tell Bud knew that the cardboard jungle was not much of anything, and not much of anything doesn’t feed you. Throughout the story he has crazy experience’s and at the end of the story he finally has a family and he is a new person, he was happy and was so thankful for it. This is why this is one of my favorite things in Bud, Not Buddy.

Another one of my favorite things about Bud, Not Buddy is the way you can visualize the setting, or the characters or anything that was able to become an image in my mind. A lot of times in the story Bud described something so vividly and I was able to picture it right away or imagine what that object, or person was. For example, In the very beginning of the book, Bud goes through a rough foster home experience and ends up stuck in a shed. He describes a lot of things in that shed and I was able to picture  the shed. In one part Bud said “I raised the rake over my head again, closed my eyes and swung it like I was Paul Bunyan chopping down a tree with one blow.” I can visualize Bud swinging the rake at the “vampire bat” and swinging very hard and hurting the bat in one swing because he described it very well. This is why I like the visualizing part of Bud, Not Buddy.

The last of my favorite things about Bud, Not Buddy is the point of view of the story. Bud himself told the story and thought that it was a brilliant idea because it was Bud’s story, his life and who better to explain then Bud himself. I personally think that if it was told by a narrator it wouldn’t be as interesting or realistic. I think this because we wouldn’t get to know Bud’s thoughts and hear his true voice in the story. One example on how I heard Bud’s voice was in chapter 14 when Bud started crying for the first time in the story. I could really feel his emotions because it was so happy that he found people who cared about him, people who were interested in him and I could tell that he was having so many emotions and feelings because I could hear him through his perspective. This was Buds words on the whole crying incident “ All of a sudden I knew that out of all places in the world that I’d ever been this was the one. That of all people I’d ever met these were the ones. This is where I’m supposed to be.” And another sentence that stuck out to me was “ Tears started jumping out of my eyes so hard that I had to cover my face with a red and white napkin that was on the table.”   If there were a narrator they would just say the things Bud did or what he went through, and that doesn’t seem as nice as Bud explaining the story. I feel connected to Bud when he tells the story and I feel like the story has more meaning if it’s told by Bud himself. This is why I like the point of view in Bud, Not Buddy.

As you can see I really enjoy Bud, Not Buddy and the different things about it. I think you’d like it too. You may have the same opinions as me or different ones. This is why I think you should read Bud, Not Buddy.

My Career goal!

So, You Think you can Choreograph?

By: Basia Ford

Do you want to be a choreographer? If you do than be ready for hard work and fun times. You need a bachelor’s degree to become a dance teacher/ choreographer, so you have to work hard in school. It is recommended to go to college but not always, you also need experience to become a choreographer. On the other hand being a choreographer can also have a great change in your life even if you have to work hard. Helping others achieve their goals in dancing is great feeling. If choreography is a career you’re interested in then be prepared to give a lot of work and effort because choreography requires leadership, determination, and innovation.

In order to become a successful, effective choreographer you have to be a good leader. Choreographers teach up to 70-100 kids a day it depends on how many children or teens go to your dance studio. You can’t show up to work unprepared or unaware of what your doing. You have to lead others in a path of a successful future and if you’re not a good leader you won’t be able to do so. Choreographers have to dance, make routines, lead others, and so many other important things that makes it important to be a good leader. Being a leader takes time, but it’s worth it.

Also, being a choreographer requires determination. Most dance studios have dancers who are determined to reach their goal, but their not the only ones who need to be determined you do too. You need to be determined to get up every day, go to work and teach 70-100 kids in one day. What if one day you go to work and you feel unable to teach? That means you didn’t try your hardest to determine whether you want to help others achieve their goals or stay home. You need to be determined to make dance routines for people. Ballet, jazz, tap, hip-hop, etc. are all dances that you need to be determined to teach someone. You need to have the ability to make a dancer smile because they feel hope that they can reach their goal one day. If you are determined then maybe that determination can rub off of your students and they can be determined to dance, and learn. Being determined takes time and effort, but you’ll feel better knowing that you tried.

Lastly, Being a choreographer means that you have to be innovative. When you’re a choreographer you have to have original ideas. You can’t copy someone else’s routine you have to choreograph your own. You have to have the ability to make your own dances, your own solos, your own numbers all of it. The whole purpose of being a choreographer is to choreograph dances for others. When you’re innovative you can come up with new, and fresh ideas. You can make something that shocks everyone you do it your way. What kind of role model would you be if you copied someone else’s routine? A pretty bad one. Your students want to dance to your ideas and you need innovation to do so.

As you can see being a choreographer is a hard working, fun job. It’s not always so easy to teach dances, or be a leader it takes hard work. However, choreographers know deep down that even though choreography is hard it’s totally worth it. Helping to bring the future of dance in people’s lives is what being a choreographer is all about, so do you think you can choreograph?

Free Write Friday!

On Wednesday I was in the Ephrata parade! It was super fun, but my legs still hurt. Me and my bestie Mikaila were holding the big banner for our marching band. Even though it was easy it was so painful. I ended up losing feeling in my wrist because I was holding that banner for  3 hours straight. The floats and trucks in front of us were really slow, and luckily they stopped for like 5 minutes and we were able to drink water and sit in the middle of the road. I am well aware that the street is filled with germs, but I didn’t care I was off my feet for a few minutes. Anyways, this wednesday October 4th I’m in my hometown parade with i’m more excited for, because I’ll have my family and friends cheer me on, and that parade is faster, so less work. Anyways, this is my free write friday!

What is Global Goal 13?

Posted on

What is global goal 13? well global goal 13 is a goal that wants to take action on climate change. As everyone knows climate change always naturally happens, it’s a part of earth, but for the past 200 years human behavior has added to the mix. Many things cause global warming, for example the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is the trapping of the sun’s warmth in a planet’s lower atmosphere. Due to the transparency of the atmosphere to visible radiation from the sun. This greenhouse effect holds a specific gas that absorbs infrared radiation , carbon dioxide, and chlorofluorocarbons. These gases cause global warming. That’s what global goal 13 is.
