Please remember that on Monday, October 12th students do not have school.

Here is our class weekly email for October 12-16, 2015.

Letter Days Next Week:

Monday-NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS

Tuesday- Day C-wear tennis shoes!

Wednesday- Day D

Students will be visited by the fire company to learn about fire prevention.

Thursday-Day E

Friday-Day A-bring library books back to school!

What we will be working on this week:

  • Please review the following high frequency words with your child at home: I, am, the, little, a, to, have, is.
  • Please have your child practice reading and writing the high frequency words that we’ve learned so far
  • This week we will be concentrating on identifying and writing the letter A. We will discuss the sound of A as well as words that begin and end with the A sound.
  • In math we are working on counting up to 10 objects correctly and writing the numeral correctly. Writing the numerals to 10 would be a helpful concept to practice at home.  This can be tricky for Kindergarten students.  I sent home a packet of our number songs that we are using in class to help students learn how to properly write each letter.
  • In writing we are working on coming up with a topic for a sentence and then counting out how many words are in our sentence. Students are then producing “kidwriting” (writing the sounds that they hear in the words) to write each word of their sentence on the lines.

As always, please let me know if you have any comments, questions, or concerns!

Have a great weekend!

Decodable Books

Posted by Miss Fagan | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on September 1, 2015

Dear Families,

Each week a decodable book will be sent home with your child. This is a paper book with simple text that allows children to practice reading the high frequency words that we are focusing on that week.  Students receive a copy to take home as well as a copy to keep at school in their book box.  The copy that is sent home is your copy to keep.  Students will accumulate many of these books throughout the year; and they will be quite excited to share their reading skills with you at home.

Thank you for all that you do to ensure your child’s academic success!

Family Times Newsletter

Posted by Miss Fagan | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on August 31, 2015

Dear Families,

Each week you will be receiving a “Family Times” newsletter.  This newsletter will explain what we will be learning about that week in Language Arts.  It will tell you which letters and high frequency words we are focusing on that week.  It will also give you a glimpse into vocabulary words and reading comprehension skills that we will be talking about in class.  The best part of this newsletter is that it provides helpful ways for you to practice these concepts with your child at home.

If you misplace the paper copy, head on over to the newsletter tab of our classroom blog to find it.

Blessings,

~Miss Fagan
