What we will be working on this week:

  • Please review the following high frequency words with your child at home: I, am, the, little, a, to, have, is, like, we, my. We will also be learning he, for this week.
  • Please have your child practice reading and writing the high frequency words that we’ve learned so far.
  • This week we will be concentrating on identifying and writing the letter I. We will discuss the sound of I as well as words that begin with the sound of I and words that contain the I sound in the middle.
  • In math we are starting a new math unit. We will be learning positional language, 2D shapes (circle, square, rectangle, triangle, hexagon), and 3D shapes (sphere, cube, cone, cylinder).
  • In writing we are working on coming up with a topic for a sentence and then counting out how many words are in our sentence. Students are then producing “kidwriting” (writing the sounds that they hear in the words) to write each word of their sentence on the lines.  Students are being encouraged to stretch out the words in order to hear as many sounds as possible within each word.
