What we will be working on this week:

  • Please review the following high frequency words with your child at home: I, am, the, little, a, to, have, is. We will also be learning we, my, like this week.
  • Please have your child practice reading and writing the high frequency words that we’ve learned so far.
  • This week we will be concentrating on identifying and writing the letter P. We will discuss the sound of P as well as words that begin and end with the P sound.
  • In math we are working on counting up to 10 objects correctly and writing the numeral correctly. Writing the numerals to 10 would be a helpful concept to practice at home.  This can be tricky for Kindergarten students.  I sent home a packet of our number songs that we are using in class to help students learn how to properly write each letter.  We are also learning about comparing numbers to 10.
  • In writing we are working on coming up with a topic for a sentence and then counting out how many words are in our sentence. Students are then producing “kidwriting” (writing the sounds that they hear in the words) to write each word of their sentence on the lines.  Students are being encouraged to stretch out the words in order to hear as many sounds as possible within each word.

As always, please let me know if you have any comments, questions, or concerns!

Have a great weekend!
