Upcoming Special Dates:

  • Friday, March 18-PTO Spaghetti Dinner-4:30PM-7:30PM
    • Fill out and return the purple paper that was sent home in order to purchase tickets.

 

What we will be working on this week:

  • Please review the following high frequency words with your child at home: I, am, the, little, a, to, have, is, like, we, my, he, for, with, she, me, see, look, they, you, of, are, that do, one, two, three, four, five. We will also be learning: here, go, from.
  • Please have your child practice reading and writing the high frequency words that we’ve learned so far.
  • This week we will be concentrating on the letter Ee. We will be discussing words that contain vowel Ee.
  • In math we will be starting a new math unit. This unit connects with a unit where we learned 2D and 3D shapes.  For this unit, we will learn how to compare these shapes by attributes, sort these shapes, make models of these shapes, and learn how we can put these shapes together to form new shapes.
  • In writing we are working on coming up with a topic for a sentence and then counting out how many words are in our sentence. Students are then producing “kidwriting” (writing the sounds that they hear in the words) to write each word of their sentence on the lines.  Students are being encouraged to stretch out the words in order to hear as many sounds as possible within each word.  Students are now being required to write two sentences that relate to each other.

  • Please review the following high frequency words with your child at home: I, am, the, little, a, to, have, is, like, we, my, he, for, with, she, me, see, look, they, you, of, are, that do. We will also be learning the number words: one, two, three, four, five.
  • Please have your child practice reading and writing the high frequency words that we’ve learned so far.
  • This week we will be concentrating on blends containing the letter L. For example: bl, cl, fl, gl, pl,sl.
  • In math we will be finishing up our measurement unit. We are comparing objects to measure their length, height, and weight.  We compare objects while using vocabulary such as: longer, shorter, taller, heavier, lighter.
  • In writing we are working on coming up with a topic for a sentence and then counting out how many words are in our sentence. Students are then producing “kidwriting” (writing the sounds that they hear in the words) to write each word of their sentence on the lines.  Students are being encouraged to stretch out the words in order to hear as many sounds as possible within each word.  Students are now being required to write two sentences that relate to each other.

What we will be working on this week:

  • Please have your child practice reading and writing the high frequency words that we’ve learned so far.
  • This week we will be concentrating on identifying and writing the letters N and B. We will discuss the sound of these letters as well as words that begin and end with the sound of those letters.
  • In math we will be finishing our unit on positional language, 2D shapes (circle, square, rectangle, triangle, hexagon), and 3D shapes (sphere, cube, cone, cylinder). In December we will begin a new math unit.  In this unit we will be learning how to read, write, and build sets of teen numbers.  We will also be talking about groups of tens and ones in numbers as well as counting to 100 by ones and by tens.
  • In writing we are working on coming up with a topic for a sentence and then counting out how many words are in our sentence. Students are then producing “kidwriting” (writing the sounds that they hear in the words) to write each word of their sentence on the lines.  Students are being encouraged to stretch out the words in order to hear as many sounds as possible within each word.

**SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR—the book fair will be open Thursday and Friday during conferences.  (Thursday: 1:00-8:00 and Friday 9:00-4:00)   You may go into the library during these times to purchase items for your child or bring them along to choose items themselves.  If you are unable to purchase during those days then students will be able to purchase during our class library time on Tuesday, November 17th.

  • Please review the following high frequency words with your child at home: I, am, the, little, a, to, have, is. We will also be learning we, my, like this week.
  • Please have your child practice reading and writing the high frequency words that we’ve learned so far.
  • This week we will be concentrating on identifying and writing the letter P. We will discuss the sound of P as well as words that begin and end with the P sound.
  • In math we are working on counting up to 10 objects correctly and writing the numeral correctly. Writing the numerals to 10 would be a helpful concept to practice at home.  This can be tricky for Kindergarten students.  I sent home a packet of our number songs that we are using in class to help students learn how to properly write each letter.  We are also learning about comparing numbers to 10.
  • In writing we are working on coming up with a topic for a sentence and then counting out how many words are in our sentence. Students are then producing “kidwriting” (writing the sounds that they hear in the words) to write each word of their sentence on the lines.  Students are being encouraged to stretch out the words in order to hear as many sounds as possible within each word.
