On Monday, November 14th we invited three Veteran’s into our classroom. The students rotated through three different rooms, spending about twenty minutes in each room, listening to the stories of the Vets. The Veterans were asked to share about their age when they served, the branch of military and their job, how many years they served and positives and negatives. They also brought in artifacts and memorabilia to share with the students. After the rotations, we met in one room to honor the Veterans as a group, we presented them with a small gift to say our thanks and the students brought tears to every adult in the room when they sang “America the Beautiful” to our special guests. A special thank you to all Veterans who have served our country. We are most grateful. And as one Veteran shared with our students, the best way to say thank you to a Veteran is to be a good citizen and to make good choices. They also spoke to the students about listening to their parents and teachers and learning as much as they can. It was such a neat day, and one we will all remember.
In November we enjoyed having many dads join their kids for a breakfast before school started. I have to admit that I thought the donuts would be good with coffee until I realized that some of the kids may have had a taste of coffee before school…thank goodness it was Dads, Donuts and MILK! 🙂 Full moon, Halloween on a Monday and Thanksgiving break was enough excitement for one month!
This slideshow was shared at the November PTO Meeting. After having a T-shirt competition and selling the T-shirts, the sixth grade classes surprised PTO on Monday, November 7th with a check for $220.80. This was the total proceeds from our first ever T-shirt sale. The gift was given to the PTO as a thank you for supporting our trip and paying it forward for next year’s class to enjoy this most memorable field trip. Thank you to ALL who purchased a T-shirt and made this surprise possible!
We hope you will be able to join us on Thursday, September 7th for Brecknock’s Meet the Teacher Night!
This night is informal and informational. Please meet in the gym @ 6:00pm. We encourage you to attend this school wide event with your children (siblings welcome!) and allow them to show you their classroom, introduce you to their teachers and walk around the school to visit the specialists.
In our classroom, you will be able to browse through our curriculum, participate in a quiz with your child, watch a digital presentation on our sixth grade curriculum, see our classroom (if you haven’t already!), and more!
