If you think you are beaten, you are;

If you think that you dare not, you don’t.

If you’d like to win, but you think you can’t,

it’s almost certain that you won’t.

If you think you’ll lose, you’ve lost;

For out in the world you’ll find

Success begins with a fellow’s will –

It’s all in the state of mind.

If you think that you are out-classed, you are;

You’ve got to think high to rise.

You’ve got to be sure of yourself before

You can ever win a prize.

Life’s battles don’t always go

to the stronger or faster man;

But sooner or later, the man who wins

is the man who thinks he can!

The theme of this poem is if you believe that you are able to do something, then you must try and see if you are able to. I know this because in the poem it says, “If you’d like to win, but you think you can’t, It’s almost certain that you won’t.” This line of the scene supports this because it is saying that if you don’t have higher expectations for yourself, then you won’t be able to do as good as if you thought higher of yourself. There are plenty of things that I have given up on, but if I would have just waited a little longer, then I probably would have had something happen that would have helped me in some way. It is better to have a positive outlook on most of the things that you do or happen to you because most of the time it will get better for you quicker then any other way.
