Picture Day

We had a great picture day last Thursday. It was great to see the children gather for their class photos in the main lobby. Their smiles brought smiles to everyone who was within eyesight. Each child looked dashing in their picture day outfits. We can’t wait to see the pictures when they come back!

School starts Monday!

Families – We are so excited to see your amazing children back at school on Monday. We hope that your summer has been blessed with many special times together.

Many thanks to everyone who has helped us get the school ready for the start of this school year. The children will love seeing the rooms that have finished with construction and the rooms that have had amazing decorators (their teachers) create special learning environments.

We encourage all students to wear sneakers and bring water bottles to school.

School is just around the corner!

Your Brecknock Faculty and Staff, along with an amazing construction crew, are busily working many long hours to prepare the school for our outstanding students. While the school has been a very busy place this summer, we are ready to have the students back in the building. It truly is their smiles and learning discoveries that make Brecknock the place to be every school day.

As we start the school year, you will notice many changes. There are renovated classrooms for our Kindergartners, the music class, the computer lab, and many other areas. We are also very excited to see children running and playing on the new playground equipment.

Construction will continue throughout the entire school year. Classrooms will be renovated in phases. Many of our classes are starting the year with concrete floors and fairly simple surroundings (just wait until you see what the classroom teachers have done with their spaces!) While our custodial staff does an amazing job keeping our school clean throughout the school year, there may a bit more dust at times. We would encourage our students to wear sneakers for their comfort and safety.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

Parent Pick-Up

Just a reminder, we are asking that you send in a dated note when your child is not following normal dismissal procedures, i.e. car rider, picking up early for an appointment. Please include the full name of the individual who will be picking up your child. If we do not receive a note, your child will be expected to follow his/her normal routine. We understand that sometimes plans change at the last minute so if you need to pick up your child and did not know before school, please call the office no later than 2:45. It can get very busy at the end of the day and we want to ensure that we have notified your child and his/her teacher of the change in a timely manner.

Writing PSSA’s

5th Grade did an amazing job taking their writing PSSA’s during March. Reading, Math and Science PSSA’s all fall during the month of April. Please be sure that your child gets a good night’s rest and eats a healthy breakfast so that he/she is ready to concentrate on the test. Please carefully read the letter about electronic equipment during PSSA testing. No electronic equipment (phones, iPods, ereaders) is allowed in the testing rooms. It is best for your child to keep these items at home.

Summer Visitation Day 2012

This summer, we are setting aside a day to open our building doors for visitation time before the first day of school. We especially encourage families and students new to Brecknock to visit us on this day, but certainly all students who are eager to stroll the halls of Brecknock and take a peek at his/her new classroom are welcomed to visit. Please read the information below to learn more. Visitation Day is August 21 from 12-4 PM. Visitors will be greeted in the main lobby by Mrs. Hilt and representatives from our Parent-Teacher Organization, and will be provided with orientation materials and a floor plan so they can explore and get to know our school building. A paper copy of this flyer will be sent home in our summer mailing in early August. We are looking forward to meeting our new students and welcoming families to our school!

We hope you can join us for Moms and Muffins tomorrow, May 11. It is always so wonderful to see family members fill our gymnasium with good cheer! It will be a nice start to Mother’s Day weekend! Gym doors open at 8:15 AM!

Other important dates to note:

May 18, Brecknock’s first “Walk to School” day

On Friday, May 18, 2012, (rain date May 23),  the school  buses will pick up all AM Brecknock students at their regular appointed time & place, but the buses will travel to Quality Warehouse and drop off students at that location. Then, students will “walk to school” from the Quality Warehouse to Brecknock Elementary School.  Brecknock’s staff will be on site to safely escort the students as they walk.

AM car students need to be dropped off at the scheduled time, but the location for this day only has changed! Car students will be dropped off at the front entrance.  Signs will be posted & staff will be available to assist in this alternative drop off site.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping to make this healthy endeavor a success! -Mrs. Hollinger & staff
