Staff in the Spotlight #6 – Miss Heller!

Meet Miss Tara Heller!

Miss Heller is a kindergarten and ELK teacher in our school. She graduated from Shippensburg University and taught for two years in the Harrisburg School District (2nd grade and kindergarten). Her hobbies include playing softball and basketball, coaching, scrapbooking, puzzles, and playing with her kitten!

Here are some fun facts that you may not know about Miss Heller.  In November she was very excited to get a kitten.  She is a calico cat named Penny (after her favorite college football team, Penn State). Miss Heller has a twin brother and an older sister. This year she will walk in her 5th Relay for Life, which is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Miss Heller loves the Philadelphia Phillies, Philadelphia Eagles, and Penn State.

For Miss Heller, the best part about working at Brecknock is that our parents are very supportive of their children’s education, and students are respectful and motivated to learn.

She loves visiting the beach in Ocean City, Maryland, and her favorite vacation thus far was on a cruise to the Bahamas. She also loves to travel to meet up with her college roommates when she gets the chance.

One thing that Miss Heller always wanted to do, but never has, is ride in a hot air balloon. She says, “I am afraid of heights but it seems safer than sky diving or bungee jumping!!”

Miss Heller enjoys learning about ways to become a better teacher.  She is excited to start her Master’s Degree in reading this spring. Miss Heller’s favorite book is the Essential 55 because it is based on a true story about a teacher who faced a lot of struggles teaching in an urban school.  Rather than giving up, he found ways to reach out to his students and become a very influential teacher.

Thank you, Miss Heller, for all that you do! You can visit her classroom blog here!
