Wow! I can’t believe we are already looking towards the end of our first marking period. The students have been really busy learning about addition and subtraction strategies. With the introduction of these strategies, the students will now have a toolbox to use when they encounter various math problems. We have been doing a lot of guided practice and this week it is going to move to more independent work.
There are times when students do not finish all of their classwork. In these cases, I am asking students to finish problems for homework so they are able to get enough practice of the new skills we are learning in class. In addition to any pages that may come home, students can log onto IXL to practice the starred skills in the addition and subtraction areas. I also found a few fun subtraction activities that could also be done at home. Just use the following link to check those out! https://www.education.com/activity/second-grade/subtraction/
Please continue practice math facts each night. As we move through our math units a basic understanding of fact fluency is crucial. Students should be coming home with various colors of math facts. As they pass those facts as new color set is sent home. Please let me know if your child is struggling with the set or it seems too easy.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know!
