I can’t believe we are at the end of the the second marking period! The students continue to work so hard and grow every day!
We have been working on a variety of things such as locating and discussing key details in fiction texts. We have been really focusing on the 5W’s (who, what, where, when, when, and how). In addition, the students have been learning about story structure and sequence of fiction texts. Students have been exploring the characters, setting, plot, problem, and solution in various stories. We have had some great discussions about when these items show up in stories and how the impact each other as well.
In writing, the students have worked on a few different projects. We have worked on a a How to Make Hot Chocolate piece where students explained the steps to making the yummy treat. We have also worked on a narrative story where the students made up a character who received a gift. We are just finishing up that project. Students are working on creating exciting openings, writing in complete sentences, using appropriate capital letters and punctuation, and spelling grade level words appropriately. We will be moving onto opinion writing in the coming weeks.
Please continue to have your child read each night for 20 minutes and fill out their log. We will continue with reading logs and spelling through the second half of the year.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
