See Think Wonder- Machu Picchu

Expedition Name | Text Title |
Machu Picchu | Lost City |
What do you SEE? (Describe what you see using WOW words) |
I saw enormous structures made completely out of stone, not perfectly cut pieces, yet they fit together so well that for around 600 years they stayed together without any mortar despite rain, tourist traffic, and yet it still stands! |
What do you THINK? (As you are experiencing VR tell your audience in detail what you are thinking using sequence words. First, Next, Last) |
I thought about what amazing people the Maya must’ve been. I also thought about the spectacular architecture I was seeing and experiencing. |
What do you WONDER? (During your expedition what are you wondering about? What questions come to your mind?) |
Were the Maya people thriving in any other places? |

Text Connections |
What did you SEE in the Expedition that you can CONNECT to the text? (Be sure to cite specific examples from the expedition and the text) |
I saw enormous stone structures that were also mentioned briefly in the text. I also saw the dense jungle that Hiram Bingham had to tediously climb through with the constant fear of being killed by snakes, and it really did seem like it would be terrifying in there for early explorers. |
How do you THINK the Expedition enhanced your understanding of the text? (Be sure to use evidence from the text to support your response) |
So in the VR, I saw many young boys, and that reminded me of Bingham’s young guide. It amused me to think that any one of the people I saw could’ve had Bingham’s guide as an ancestor. |
What do you still WONDER after experiencing the Expedition and reading the text? (Write a reflection to extend your thinking i.e. What are you still curious about? What more do you want to know?) |
I still wonder if the lost city of Vilcapampa is actually a place, and if it has been discovered yet? |
